Update 10-23-08

Update 10-23-08
Looks like I'll end up losing approximately (at least) 70% of my flashlights and other products designed to emit light come January 2009.
I'll be keeping a few of the AA and AAA cell lights (like my beloved Arc LS prototype, my Arc LS with royal blue LED (the two lights share the same web page), and a number of variants of the Arc AAA flashlights.

Update 10-19-08

Update 10-19-08
The "" icon on my website is to designate products which I was forced to dispose of beginning on 10-18-08. This means I will no longer have the product available for future analyses and comparisons. At this point, virtually all lights that use "D", "C", "AA", and "AAA" cells would become disposed of.

Update 10-18-08

Update 10-18-08
I've been forced to start packing already, as our move is tentatively scheduled to take place in January 2009.

I've also been asked to reduce the amount of my possessions by approximately 30%, so I'll definitely be losing some of what I wish I hadn't.

Update 10-09-08

Update 10-09-08
I've been told that we'll be "on the move" again as soon as 01-03-09.
Where, I do not yet know; but it will likely be in this general neighbourhood.

Update 09-23-08

Update 09-23-08
At the new home, a minor pain in the toliet muscle exists for basic navigation:

This stool is on the floor in the hallway between my sister's and my rooms and the rest of the house. It is there to keep the dog out of our rooms; he is elderly and in rather poor health, and would not make it outside in time when he needs to go tee tee (piss) - since this is a rental property, keeping the carpeting in our rooms "pee free" is a rather high priority.

Because I use a cane to get around inside the house, this stool does present a minor but recurring problem for me to get around...but I can live with it.

Update 08-31-08

Update Labour Day eve (08-31-08)
I received a large rechargeable spotlight on Friday, and both of my parents (whom I live with) were rather urinated about my having purchased it because of its size.
This means that I will no longer be able to evaluate large products on my website - they'd get totally pissed if I were to receive another large product after having been told that doing so was a rather severe no-no.

Update 08-26-08

Update 08-26-08
I have now had success in installing my ProMetric beam cross-sectional analyser and the computer that hosts that instrument. The installation is quite large, but I can set the instrument itself up on an "as needed" basis - extreme accuracy in positioning is not super critical for this particular application, so this type of installation is perfectly acceptable.

Update 08-24-08

Here's the view from the window in my room.
As you can see, it's nothing to write home about...O WAIT!!! I'm already home!!! but it does allow me to take spectroscopy of direct sunlight - something I have not been able to do at my last two homes due to how the windows faced in relation to the spectrometer.

O, and I've had TV since Monday 08-18-08.

Update 08-14-08

Update 08-14-08
There is a Raley's store, a UPS Store, and a bank nearby - well within range of my electric wheelchair!!!

I found this out a couple of nights ago; my sister drove me there last night so I could kind of "eyeball" the distance...looks like ~1.5 miles (~2.41km) to me.

Update 08-12-08

Update 08-12-08
I now have broadband internet access, so I can say goodbye to toliets...er...uh...dial-up at all times except when answering email - but this is how it normally works so I'm quite used to it.

Update 08-09-08

Update 08-09-08
The AC has been repaired, and my cleaning schedule now only includes vaccuming my room once weekly (Friday) instead of having to do it every single bloody day.
My cleaning/chores schedule now goes something like this:
  • Change the dog's water (one bowl and one bucket) 2x a day
  • Feed the kitty cats 2x a day
  • Clean out the plastic cat toliets (litterboxes) (three units) 3x a day
  • Set, unset, and clean the table 1x a day
  • Clean the kitchen; load & empty the dishdoucher 1x a day
  • Vaccume my room 1x a week (Fridays)
  • Do my wash (including my blanket and other bedclothes) 1x a week
In other news, I have had no TV at all since moving; my stepmother made me dispose of the set I had, and she furnished me with another set that turned out to be defective.

The AC is malfunctioning at the new house, resulting in indoor temperatures of 87°F (30.6°C)...yucko!!!

Update 07-31-08

Update 07-31-08
Here are two views of the new house:

From across the street.

Closer, showing the front door.

I also plan to make a test flight of one of the large R/C airplanes that was very slightly damaged during the move and has been subsequently repaired - the actual repair simply involved some of the included glue and a few moments of my time (this is the airplane that had a break in the tail section - some of the previous glue job came apart; nothing was physically broken here except a small segment of a vertical elevator - it too went on properly and very quickly; this particular damage {the break in the vertical elevator} occurred after moving, rather than during the move).

And finally, I was able to successfully perform spectroscopy of sunlight - something I was not able to do at my last two locations where I had access to the spectrometer due to the direction the bedroom window faced. I published the resulting chart on my website and posted it to two BBSs.

Update 07-30-08

Update 07-30-08
Looks like I'll be able to perform spectroscopy of sunlight after all! Between ~9:00am and ~11:00am PDT, the sun does indeed shine where it can strike the instrument through my window (and of course, I'll caption the resulting graphic that it was taken through window glass in case the glass attenuates certain wavelengths).

I'm making this update with a dial-up connection on my desktop pee-cee; broadband requires that I obtain one of those cordless network cards.
I know, they're called "WIRELESS", but the word "wireless" implies cellular communication (such as cellular telephony); the word "cordless" does not.

Update 07-29-08

Update 07-29-08
I have successfully moved; damage found in the move was extremely minor - just a repairable deformation of the tail section of one R/C airplane, and another repairable break in the tail section of another R/C airplane.

I'm making this update with a dial-up connection on my laptop computer (and this dinosaur really *IS* a "laptop" and not a "notebook"!!!); the main computer has not yet been installed - I'm waiting for my father to assemble the desk before that computer can be installed.

Update 07-25-08

Update 07-25-08
Well, I got a brief reprieve - until ~9:00am PDT today anyway.
So I can answer my email and do some of the other things I normally do.
But me without internet access is like steak without eggs, milk without the cream, oatmeal without a sweetening agent, etc.

My stepmother needs to borrow my last $300, so the shopping trip I had planned for an hour from now is cancelled.

Once we pass 9:00am PDT, I'll not only disconnect this computer, I'll want to wash my clothes & blanket, pack the remainder of my stuff, and thoroughly check the entire place to be absolutely, positively, 100% certain that nothing really important gets left behind - as this will be my last full day at this addre
