I guess I jumped the gun a bit...THIS will be my last entry from my present location; if everything progresses as it should (and so far, so good), I will be at the new location in approximately 35 hours as of this writing (5:01am PDT 09-23-11).

I'll be dismantling the computer system a bit later today.

If there's an unsecured wireless connection that my receiver can pick up at the new place, I may be able to post an "I've arrived" update on my laptop computer sometime on Saturday 09-24-11; but anything that involves money (such as Ebay, Paypal, my bank, etc.) will still be unavailable, as I would never input passwords to financial institutions and other sites that deal with anything "money" on an unsecured network. But if there is no wireless connection that my receiver can get, then you won't hear from me for at least several days.

This location is *SOMEWHERE* in western Washington; that's about as much info. I can divulge at this time. So the move will not be a long-distance pain in the diodes as it were.
This is a single-story home; no stairs for anybody to deal with.

The only possible fly in the ointment here is that I'll have to park my scooter on the covered patio; when winter comes I'll have to wrap the batteries in an electric blanket and turn the blanket to "low" so that the batteries don't freeze and subsequently become queered.

The military burial that was originally planned is now off the table; the new plan is to have his body creamated and the ashes given to us. When my stepmother "goes", her body will also be creamated and both of their ashes plus those of the puppy dogs are to be deposited near Puget Sound (in western Washington state USA) by my stepsister.

My father left this mortal coil at 12:25am PDT today (07-01-11).

Toward the end, he had a temperature of 106°F (41.1°C) that was apparently caused directly by the cancer; and a body temperature that high is usually deadly -- that may very well be what actually terminated his life.

He will receive a military burial at no cost to us, but we still have to find the money for the coffin and other miscellaneous funerary expenses.

I went to see my father in the hospital yesterday, and the first thing I noted is that he has so many lines, tubes, and hoses coming out him that he looks like a Borg from Star Trek!!! He's being pumped full of drugs to keep his blood pressure up, and he's breathing a 70% O2/air mixture via a ventilator. Things are not looking good here folks!!!

The only other significant update I have for you today is that the move is tentatively scheduled to occur sometime in August.

Packing has now commenced -- this means moving is iminent. It is not yet known exactly *WHERE*, but it will be within 5 to 10 miles (south King County to north Pierce County Washington USA).

The primary reason is that my father is now gravely ill (to put it politely, he's "circling the drain") and in a nursing home -- his income will soon be lost and we will no longer have the $$$ to live at this house.

I'll have use of this computer until within a day or two of the move; however I could be without internet access of any type for a month or more after the move...although this lengthy interval is not likely, the chances of this being the case are not mathematically zero.

I went through more boxes of my belongings selecting what to keep and what to dispose of; the "Big Fat Meanie" (from SpongeBob SquarePants) {garbage truck} is going to get a lot of my lights and other belongings - out of approximately nine medium U-Haul boxes, I'm keeping only a single medium box (slightly smaller than a U-Haul medium) - so you can see a lot of stuff will end up at the dump real soon...possibly as soon as later today.

Today is "Beezelmon's Big Day" {obscure Digimon reference here} - my LED website is now officially mainly archival-only; however I will still be testing LEDs (providing beam photographs, Vf and If measurements, intensity measurements, performing spectroscopy and {when possible} beam cross-sectional analyses) -- and evaluating small lasers much as I always have.

Evaluations of flashlights and other products (other than small lasers) are now only being performed if the sender pays for return shipping. "The Smack Test" and "The Immersion Test" will only be performed with explicit written consent (not just implied oral consent) and the sender agrees to the product's return even if one or both tests result in damage to the unit that would prohibit its resale.

The decision to scale back like this *** IS NOT *** mine; my parents (whom I live with primarily for financial reasons) are absolutely, positively, 100% adamant that I dispose of much of my existing test stock and limit new evaluations to only those products for which return shipping is paid.

As you may have already read here, I'll be moving yet again (this will be the fifth place I've had since putting my LED Museum website up) sometime in late-February 2009; I don't yet have the new address.

Once again, it isn't because of a tragedy or a missed HUD appointment; it's because my stepmother (whom I currently live with primarily due to financial reasons) wants to move to the Federal Way / Tukwila WA. USA area (~40 miles SE of Seattle) to be close to her sister, who is dying.

The duration of our stay is expected to be ~1 year, then it's probably back to Sacramento CA. USA.
My previous "Moving News" web page is right here; another page was created because the last one was simply getting too big for its britches.

I also used a Global Search and Destro...er...uh...REPLACE to change the address on the 1,954 web pages that make up my website; I changed them to a link that points to a single web page because if I didn't, I'd have to go through all of this rigamarole again in early-2010.

I will have to leave behind *MANY MORE* lights than was previously expected as well.

However, I will be keeping at least several; among them, the Arc LS prototype, the royal blue Arc LS, and a fair percentage of SureFire products. I also intend to keep at least some of my lasers: all Blu-ray (violet-emitting) lasers, at least one blue DPSS laser (probably this one), at least several green DPSS lasers, both yellow DPSS lasers, and several red lasers.

At the new home, a minor pain in the toliet muscle exists for basic navigation:

This stool is on the floor in the hallway between my sister's and my rooms and the rest of the house. It is there to keep the dog out of our rooms; he is elderly and in rather poor health, and would not make it outside in time when he needs to go tee tee (piss) - since this is a rental property, keeping the carpeting in our rooms "pee free" is a rather high priority.

Because I use a cane to get around inside the house, this stool does present a minor but recurring problem for me to get around...but I can live with it.

I received a large rechargeable spotlight on Friday, and both of my parents (whom I live with) were rather urinated about my having purchased it because of its size.

I have now had success in installing my ProMetric beam cross-sectional analyser and the computer that hosts that instrument. The installation is quite large, but I can set the instrument itself up on an "as needed" basis - extreme accuracy in positioning is not super critical for this particular application, so this type of installation is perfectly acceptable.

The AC has been repaired, and my cleaning schedule now only includes vaccuming my room once weekly (Friday) instead of having to do it every single bloody day.
My cleaning/chores schedule now goes something like this:

Change the dog's water (one bowl and one bucket) 2x a day
Feed the kitty cats 2x a day
Clean out the plastic cat toliets (litterboxes) (three units) 3x a day
Set, unset, and clean the table 1x a day
Clean the kitchen; load & empty the dishdoucher 1x a day
Vaccume my room 1x a week (Fridays)
Do my wash (including my blanket and other bedclothes) 1x a week

In other news, I have had no TV at all since moving; my stepmother made me dispose of the set I had, and she furnished me with another set that turned out to be defective.

I also plan to make a test flight of one of the large R/C airplanes that was very slightly damaged during the move and has been subsequently repaired - the actual repair simply involved some of the included glue and a few moments of my time (this is the airplane that had a break in the tail section - some of the previous glue job came apart; nothing was physically broken here except a small segment of a vertical elevator - it too went on properly and very quickly; this particular damage {the break in the vertical elevator} occurred after moving, rather than during the move).

And finally, I was able to successfully perform spectroscopy of sunlight - something I was not able to do at my last two locations where I had access to the spectrometer due to the direction the bedroom window faced. I published the resulting chart on my website and posted it to two BBSs.

Between ~9:00am and ~11:00am PDT, the sun does indeed shine where it can strike the instrument through my window (and of course, I'll caption the resulting graphic that it was taken through window glass in case the glass attenuates certain wavelengths).

I'm making this update with a dial-up connection on my desktop pee-cee; broadband requires that I obtain one of those cordless network cards.
I know, they're called "WIRELESS", but the word "wireless" implies cellular communication (such as cellular telephony); the word "cordless" does not.

I have successfully moved; damage found in the move was extremely minor - just a repairable deformation of the tail section of one R/C airplane, and another repairable break in the tail section of another R/C airplane.

I found another item that needs to go: the Energizer Rechargeable Flashlight.

I have disconnected my USB2000 Spectrometer from one of my computers and screwed the metal "bung" over its light input aperture to help protect it from foreign matter. The next time this instrument will get used is sometime after 07-28-08 when I'm at my new location.

I could be without internet access (and therefore not able to post any additional updates to my website) until as late as 09-01-08 for Christ sakes!!!

Although this is highly unlikely, the probability of this occurring is not mathematically zero.

Regarding that free CBM8032 computer, I was finally successful in posting my ad to Craigslist.org yesterday morning; I got one telephone call just a matter of minutes after posting, but the person who called asked if they could "surf the web" with it - I told them that it was *VERY* old and that surfing the net with it would *DEFINITELY NOT* be possible. A caller a short time later asked if it could run DOS applications - I told this person much the same as I told the previous one

Later on (after receiving a third telphone call at ~2:40pm PDT yesterday); the computer was then picked up at ~2:54pm PDT, so it is no longer in any "dumpster danger".

There's still a decent chance that I can take it with me and offer it as a freebie at the new place, but the possibility of this occuring is not absolutely, positively, 100%.

Three more items that should have been packed (not including the test equipment I mentioned that was intentionally left un-packed earlier) were found that ought to go with me: the "belly button light" with flashing blue LEDs, a red LED blinker that uses two AA cells, and the cellular tephone detector pen (it has a red LED in its top that blinks whenever a nearby cellular telephone rings - even if that telephone is set to "mute"). Two of these have evaulation web pages on one of my websites; the third simply functions as a kind of night light even though it is not actually useful for what most people consider a "night light".

My sister and myself went through the garage yesterday evening, marking what to bring to the new house and what to bring to storage. My Rascal 255 electric wheelchair went to the garbage, but my beloved Commodore Executive SX-64 and Commodore CBM 8032 computers were spared this fate; they will both go to long-term storage.

I have decided to keep the second (broken) Air Kite Glider; I forgot that I now have some adhesive that may be capable of repairing its broken "neck". If this is indeed the case, I'll have a spare on hand in case I break one while making the test flight(s).

I've been asked on several occasions to perform spectroscopy of direct sunlight; that hasn't been possible here because of the direction my bed room window faces...it may be even less feasable at the new location due to my "view" (see the 07-18-08 update directly below). My current room measures 11 feet even by 9 feet 10 inches - so my new room will be smaller, but not as much smaller as I thought it would be. So beam cross-sectional analysis may indeed be possible after all.

The view from the window in my room is not very spectacular; there is a tall (~6.5 feet) brownish-grey wooden fence approximately 3.5 feet from the window, then the next door neighbour's house ~3.5 feet beyond that. And there is no readily apparent "distance" laser testing range either. The only place devoid of homes & automobiles is the park across the street, but there appear to be houses along the entire perimeter of the area - and shooting lasers into such an area would be a rather severe no-no.

A very significant percentage of my flashlight collection is to be placed into long-term storage. Since this storage is offsite (many miles/kilometers away), and I do not own or have access to a vehicle (I don't even have a driver's license, so even if I had access to a vehicle, I could not legally operate it), I cannot simply retrieve items from there upon request. But it sure beats having to leave behind, sell, or otherwise dispose of any of the items. And I'll be taking almost all lasers & products which lase (emit coherent laser radiation) with me.

I have been told that because there will be three animals at the new house (the two kitty cats we have and the black lab that my father & stepmother have) that I'll have to vaccume my room *EVERY SINGLE DAY* whether I think it needs it or not!!! My stepmother (who's house we'll be moving to) apparently has a phobia about pet fur. This is only a minor pain in the toliet muscle ("butt") in the grand scheme of things though, and I think I can live with it.

The only other known inconvenience at this new location is that there is no food store, drug store, bank, or shipping facility (like a post office, The UPS Store or Federal Express) anywhere within range of my electric wheelchair. This simply means that I'll have to get my sister to drive me to the food store, drug store, and bank; and that I'll have to purchase much more than normal to keep the number of trips necessary to a minimum - I rather dislike having to "go bye bye in the car" so doing this will reduce the number of trips necessary in any given time frame. This means I'll be stuck at home on a virtually continuous basis.
I think I'll keep my "Moving" web page (and its associated weblog) open after I move, so that I may still publish updates as needed...I have a sneaking suspicion that my "computer time" will decrease and my chores will increase after the move - you know how mothers are.

Although my "computer time" will very likely decrease sharply, you can bet that The LED Museum will continue to function much as it always has.

I just heard that we're going to go "month by month" on our lease here; apparently the move will not take place in April as had been previously planned - it has been postphoned for an as-of-yet unknown period of time. The primary reasons are that my sister will be too busy looking after our mother after her hip operation on 04-01-08 and taking care of the dog - who is old and rather ill - this will leave her with insufficient time to look for a new place (a rental house or an apartment).
The Prometric beam cross-sectional analyser has already been packed away; setting it back up will be a rather lengthy process, and isn't something I can simply do "overnight".

My sister told me last night that the new place will have no storage, and that I will ***NOT*** be able to keep nearly this much stuff in my room, so I stand to be forced to leave behind approximately 50% to 70% of everything I own when we move sometime this June.

When this occurs, operations at The LED Museum will be scaled back CONSIDERABLY - though I hope not halted 100%.
Some things *WILL* be kept no matter what, like my yellow & blue DPSS lasers, my violet lasers, at least some of my green DPSS lasers, the spectrometer, the ProMetric beam cross-sectional analyser, at least one variable voltage/variable current power supply, at least two of my three desktop computers, my laptop computer, all of my CDs, at least some of my R/C aircraft, and as many of the flashlights & other items that rated four stars or higher on my website as I can find before moving day. O, and the royal blue Arc-LS - don't want to lose another one of those things ya know - I lost one in mid-2006 when I moved from Seattle to Sacramento, and boy was I urinated.

I have already found a home for my collection of vintage ghetto blasters, and I have fairly good prospects of finding (a) temporary home(s) for the number of my flashlights & lasers that I'd otherwise have to leave behind, but I'm still looking for somebody to take (at least temporary) custody of most of my flying machines (R/C airplanes & helicopters), two vintage Commodore computers, and my insulator collection - at least the large "Muncie combo" that my sister insists I keep in the dark under lock & key because she thinks it's ugly and looks like a gigantic toadstool. :/

MOVING UPDATE...looks like there's a pretty good chance that we'll be moving just a couple of blocks away...I think the complex is called the "The Reserve at Riverlake"; however there is a small but not insignificant chance that I could be mistaken. It's on Rush River Dr. just a hair south of Lake Front Dr. (my address is peppered on thousands of my own web pages on the internet so I do not mind publishing this information here).
The specific date is not yet known, but it will be sometime this June.

Our credit reports failed to pass muster with the new apartment landlord, effectively putting the kibash on the new apartment at Delta Pointe that we applied for on Wednesday 05-21-08.

We're also going to lose the use of the storage unit here within the next 1 to 3 days, as she's decided to stick it out here at least through June 2008 - but ****canning the onsite storage will save $100.00 a month.

Thankfully, somebody from Oakland picked up my collection of vintage ghetto blasters at ~7:30pm PDT yesterday - I'd hate to see them end up in the dipsty dumpster along with the other stuff of mine in there - including an electric wheelchair with flat rear tires and bad batteries...my sister says that it can be pushed to the dipsty dumpsters.

The apartment management says we owe $260.00 (I *HAVE* the money - not a problem here!!!), however my mother (who is in real estate) called me last night and rather emphatically told me ***NOT*** to pay it because she thinks something's fishy WRT our switching from an annual lease to a month-to-month lease.
When she raises a stink about it later today, and if she ends up opening a can of worms and they fall into the water - and we get evicted as a result, I stand to lose nearly ***EVERYTHING*** for these three primary reasons.

1: Having an eviction on our record will put the kibash on all attempts at apartment rentals.
2: If we are evicted, we would not have any place to put my stuff, so I could lose ***EVERYTHING*** - including my electric wheelchair.
3: If we are evicted, I will essentially end up out on the street with no means to get my Rx drugs or even go to the bank once the batteries in my chair poop out. This will soon result in my death. {there is no appropriate emoticon or graemlin to place here}

My father injured himself rather seriously loading & unloading my last electric wheelchair from the back of my mother's Dodge Caravan when I arrived in Sacramento; the chair I'm using now weighs almost 100 lbs more than the chair I had when I moved here, so nobody would be able to load & unload it.

O for heaven sakes...my mother showed up to start a potential poopstorm with the landlord.

Update 06-11-08
Yesterday's "activities" by my mother did *NOT* give us the 'ol "heave ho". We still owe the $260.00 (as I fully expected we would!), which will get paid today.
In other related news, the move date has been bumped up approximately two weeks to sometime in mid-July; this will be to a temporary apt. for 6 or 7 months - then we'll be on the move again...as Whinnie the Poo might say, "o bother!"

Update 07-03-08
Our 30-day notice has officially been tendered, as of 07-01-08.
And yesterday, we filled out applications for another apartment; though I can no longer remember the name or its address in Sacramento.
We got a new apartment (not the same one we filled out applications for), though I do not yet know when the move date is - but it will be sometime within the next several weeks.
My new address will be:

My address is published all over the WWW, so I do not mind publishing my new address (and the map below) here.

The reddish, upside-down "teardrop" thing with the "A" in it at center/left will be my location.

No, you aren't seeing things.
Yes, a same-day update.
Our move date has officially been set to 08-01-08.
Our "Change of Address" forms for the post office were completed early this afternoon.
I have approximately 1,700 web pages (the vast majority on this website) that need my address changed on them, but I purchased a "Global Search & Destro...er...Replace" program in late-2006 that will make this job go surprisingly well.

Update 07-04-08
As I understand, the El Camino neighbourhood (where we'll be moving to) is a decent neighbourhood with a lower-than-average crime rate; I will not have to listen to gunfire every day, and I will not have to deal with junkies shooting up behind the dipsty dumpster, gang member wannabees, and other assorted wastoids.

Update 07-05-08
This is probably inconsequential, but I have learned that this apartment complex, called "Tamaron Ranch", comprises of 796 apartment units. Hopefully I won't get lost in this "ranch" while coming home from the store, the bank, or the UPS place - all in a nearby strip mall.
